Does anyone have any information about a Klatskin tumor (treatment and prognosis)? My mother-in-law was diagnosised the other day with this tumor and will be having surgery on Monday morning.

Thanks for any information any one may be able to share

Tim

Tim,

A Klatskin tumor is a cholangiocarcinoma (cancer of the biliary tree) occurring at the confluence of the right and left hepatic bile ducts. Complete resection of the tumour offers hope of long term survival and of late there has been renewed interest in liver transplantation from deceased donors along with adjuvant therapy.

Do you know if your mom has any signs of metastasis? If not, I'd recommend she see one of our hepatobiliary / transplant surgeons here at Huntsman. We also have a clinical trial she may be eligible for it's titled, "HCI 18450 Liver Transplantation for Cholangiocarcinoma; an effective therapy."

If you're interested, please call Shelley Stoker toll free 1-877-624-4422 or local 1-801-587-4422.

If you need anything else, please let me know.

Hi Dustin,

Thanks for the information. It is very much appreciated.. But unfortunately.. I don't think she will be a good candidate, but We will check into it . The cancer has matastasized.. involving the liver, gall bladder ( only thing removed during surgery ), and lymph nodes and more. It is Stage 3 right now. We are heading back to the doctor next week...  so hopefully we will know/ comprehend more at that time.

Thank you for the information! Thank You for giving  A REASON TO HOPE

This saturday I will be running the Salt Lake Marathon as a Home Town Hero raising donations for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. The last half of the marathon will be dedicated to Judy.  The first mile of the marathon will be dedicated to all cancer patients and mile 2 is for the friend and families of those patients.  So anyone that is reading this post, please know you are being thought of !

Tim
